Budapest is the capital underestimated by some, or at least I underestimated, but there are good reasons to visit it; than cousins European capitals still has an affordable price, you find great accommodations at low prices and there’s so much to see.
Excellent destination for families, all the places of interest are nearby, you can dine out with a few euro and also indulge in some relaxing time at the spa.
Budapest us we visited in the winter holidays, very impressive with markets, with local products, not despairing of these are also available in the rest of the year in some areas. The Hungarian capital offers several attractions as well as great views of the Danube, is a city that will make you breathe a luxurious Baroque charm and glitz then displace in some streets where the Soviet matter is still hitting and left to itself.
The metro is really pretty, although I have not got pictures (I am sorry) is very small and the trains date
back to 1896 and is in fact the second oldest underground, after London!
The postcard that is the host is the beautiful view from Gellert Hill (Gellert Hegy), you can catch up with the bus, or even hop on hop off, or walk (for the more daring) to a nice walk, for the woods, uphill. The view is lovely’ll Parliament on one side and Buda Castle from another, and in the distance he sees Margaret Island (in my photos you can not see because of the fog).
I would highly recommend to enjoy the Danube one of many packages including dinner boat with live music, damn tourist experience, but it’s worth it, it does not cost much (network is for 20 € / 25 €) Hungarian cuisine is very good, you can taste goulash, roulades very tasty cabbage, a kind of velvety bittersweet, nice to try, has built the Tokaj a liqueur wine, cook the fish very well, in the form of stew, all obviously very tasty and spiced with paprika or tend bittersweet.
Sweets are good in Hungary, and they have many typical cakes, a sweet surprise in all senses! (Zserbó SZELET to try has an excellent stuffed nuts, DOBOS CAKE, the Beigli and many others … I have tried them all after a while but I have not paid attention to the names blood glucose had risen too much)
Hotel Boscolo New York cafe (Erzsebet krt. 9-11, Budapest)
On the Buda side across the castle there is the Fishermen’s Bastion in neo-Gothic style, a really sweet little place. The area has been renovated but has ancient origins, in fact the area, high and close to the city, was used by the fishermen in the Middle Ages as a place of sighting to protect their beloved city. We have already mentioned the castle and the Parliament both visible inside.
Heroes’ Square is nice enough and we will pass if you plan to relax in the Gellert baths without a doubt the most beautiful in Budapest.
The Pest side instead is much more modern and alive, especially in the evening, if you want to walk or if you want to try a sweet hot wine in any pub or bar. In addition, always in this area, it is very nice to the central market is located near the Liberty Bridge and is accessible by tram, surely the means of transport most characteristic of the city.
A cafe to take is certainly in the bar of the Hotel Boscolo New York cafe (Erzsebet krt. 9-11, Budapest) is one of the local art nouveau most beautiful in the world, an expensive coffee, but it’s worth to feel a lady sipping a drink before the evening in the theater.
Heroes’ Square
There are other attractions, such as
museums, the
Memento Park, the shoes on the bank of the
Danube Gyula Pauer short 3/4 days in Budapest were well spent.
We liked a lot, but I think it has contributed to this above all the Hungarian addiction
Kurtoskalacs … then I will put the
link to the video … but … do not make you write only: soft and warm smoked pasta with a crispy crust, caramelized and fragrant cinnamon, with a
spread with Nutella. Please some of you back there, and you bring me one please !!!
In conclusion Budapest is a city of two faces not only the name and its origins, not only because the Danube size in half, but also because you will experience an elegant city, a snob is, but in the same time full of “old” history, an interesting city with a population friendly but quiet and discreet. It ‘an old lady who looks still good but with the face marked by boredom of life, I’ ve lived so, a little melancholy, perhaps because of the fog, but not that melancholy negative, a melancholy as an old novel that leaves a bittersweet ending in the throat.
